lose weight by dancing - click hereIn Lose Weight by Dancing, author Theresa Stevens gives weight loss a whole new meaning; in fact, she throws the term out the window entirely and instead asks readers to focus on achieving “body joy”.  The Dance-based program in 30 Days to Dance Your Way into Body Joy is not your usual weight loss plan either.  It is not a nutrition program, nor is it a fitness program in the common sense of the term.  Instead, Stevens’ program is about turning the body you have into the body you love from day one; the results will follow.

Theresa Stevens describes her guide 30 Days to Dance Your Way into Body Joy as a self-love experiment, and the first stage of the program is dedicated to helping readers find things to love in their current body.  Stevens offers three “Happiness Factors” that are aimed to turn the reader’s view of weight loss and body perfection around.  The author asks readers to change the way they think and speak about their bodies, to re-connect with their bodies and bring mind, body and spirit together, and to discover what finding time for pleasure can do.

Dance, the main fitness activity in the Lose Weight by Dancing the 30 Days to Dance Your Way into Body Joy program, is introduced as something that is done for fun and with a playful nature.  The author encourages readers to let go of self-consciousness and try dancing alone at home in front of a mirror.  Also recommended are the easy to follow DVDs included with the program, “How to Shake Your Booty in 30 Days” and “How to Samba with Theresa Stevens which are both great instructional videos where she demonstrates step by step how to begin shedding those extra pounds through some fabulous looking dance moves that are very straight forward to follow along to.  Theresa Stevens encourages you to schedule time to do the DVDs much as they would a dance class outside the home; she also suggests dance classes that can be taken in a group environment, such as Zumba.

Individuals are also encouraged to keep the feeling that dance brings them alive throughout their daily activities.  Stevens reminds you to find your inner showgirl and to feel beautiful inside and out through small steps such as clothing and makeup.  She offers a variety of tips for making small changes that will help keep up the feeling of playfulness and joy throughout the day.

Theresa Stevens calls the many activities she recommends in the program “play-cercises”, again shifting away from the usual image of a fitness program.  Included are items such as keeping a Gratitude Journal and creating a Self-Love Mirror as a focus for developing a true affection for your own image.

While much of the program is unstructured, the author does recommend creating a schedule of rituals to follow that make finding the time to indulge in the pleasures of exercise easier.  In this program, all of the exercise activities are done for pleasure, and not for weight loss.  Getting in better shape is a side effect of finding your way to Body Joy.

Lose Weight by Dancing 30 Days to Dance Your Way into Body Joy is much more than a plan to get your body in shape; it's really to get your mind and spirit in shape as well.  For all those who have struggled with finding the motivation to stick to traditional exercise regimens, the dance and pleasure based options here are a breath of fresh air.  Stevens' program Lose Weight by Dancing finds motivation in a much different place than most weight loss programs.
